His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 1,040 detainees in the emirate ahead of the UAE’s 51st National Day.
Dubai’s attorney general, Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, said the pardon reflected Sheikh Mohammed’s concern to give convicted prisoners a chance to start a new life and bring joy to their families. This gesture, he added, stems from one of the country’s key values, tolerance.
Al Humaidan said the Dubai Public Prosecutor’s Office has started coordinating with the Dubai Police to implement the order.
