External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday and discussed cooperation in energy, food security, trade and defence, in addition to exchanging views on various “regional hot spots”.
Jaishankar with Sheikh Abdullah, who is on a two-day visit to India accompanied by a high-level delegation, reviewed the continued progress of bilateral relations in different areas, since the 14th Joint Commission meeting they held in September 2022.
The two leaders appreciated the progress made in bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, consular matters, education and food security, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA ).
The two ministers noted that bilateral trade has witnessed appreciable growth under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) which entered into force on May 1, 2022, according to the statement.
India’s exports to the UAE between April and September 2022 were around $16 billion, a 24% year-on-year increase, while India’s imports grew increased by 38% to $28.4 billion over the same period.
In a tweet, Jaishankar said, “I have just concluded in-depth discussions this afternoon with FM HH @ABZayed from the United Arab Emirates. I appreciated the progress of our bilateral relations, especially in the areas of trade, investments, consular issues, education and food security.” “Exchange of views on the global situation and various regional hotspots. The rich conversation reflected the substance and closeness of our partnership,” he said.

MEA said that on food safety cooperation under I2U2 (India, Israel, UAE and USA), a delegation led by ADQ CEO visited India in October 2022 to advance discussions with various stakeholders.
IIT Delhi has held meetings with its Abu Dhabi partner, ADEK, for the establishment of the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi. Meetings of the Joint Consular Affairs Committee and the Joint Labor Working Group were held in October and November 2022.
The two sides also continued discussions on other areas of cooperation, including energy, health, defence, space, climate change, skills, fintech and startups, the MEA said.
The CIM Group and the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority held a successful High Level Investment Working Group meeting in October 2022, during which all trade cooperation and investment was discussed, he said.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the global situation and various regional hotspots as well as cooperation between the two countries in the UN Security Council, the MEA said.
The meeting at Hyderabad House here was also attended by UAE MOS for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also hosted a luncheon in honor of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates and the accompanying delegation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United Arab Emirates on June 28 and met with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Jaishankar had visited the UAE in August-September to co-chair the 14th Joint Commission Meeting and the Third Strategic Dialogue with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah.
