Abu Dhabi [UAE]November 26 (ANI): Ambassador of India to United Arab Emirates, Sunjay Sudhir Saturday was joined by over 2000 Indians in the United Arab Emirates reading the preamble to the Constitution on Constitution Day. Participants included students, the youngest being four years old, teachers, parents and representatives from all the communities of United Arab Emirates.
The Ambassador stressed the importance of Constitution Day and called on Indians to reaffirm and recommit to the values and principles enshrined in the Constitution of India. He also paid tribute to the creators of the Indian Constitution and the efforts of the Constituent Assembly.
Speaking at the Constitution Day event in New Delhi, India’s Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said on Saturday that India’s liberation from colonial rule and the drafting of the Constitution were simultaneous projects. “The protracted struggle for independence culminated in the end of colonial rule and the birth of an independent nation governed by self-government,” India’s Chief Justice said.
“Our Constitution is a social contract made between those who are in power, historically, and those who are oppressed and seek to change the hegemony of power and choose to govern themselves,” said CJI Chandrachud.
Constitution Day also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas‘, is celebrated on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India on November 26, 1949. A unique feature of the Indian Constitution, a cornerstone of Indian democracy, is that every law passed by parliament may be subject to interpretation by the Supreme Court.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Constitution Day program at the Supreme Court, said the day was observed to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949 and launched various initiatives within the framework of the e-court project.
Modi PM highlighted the contributions of innumerable people in the legislature, judiciary and executive branch over the past 70 decades of the journey of development and expansion of the Indian Constitution and thanked them on behalf of the entire nation on this special occasion.
The Prime Minister reminded us that in the current global scenario, the world is looking at India amid its growing economy and international image with hope. He said that defying all initial apprehensions about its stability, India is moving forward with full force and proud of its diversity.
He attributed this success to the Constitution. Continuing further, the Prime Minister referred to the first three words of the preamble, “We the people”, and said: “We the people are a call, a trust and an oath. This spirit of the constitution is the spirit of India, which has been the mother of democracy in the world,” he said. “In modern times, the Constitution has embraced all the cultural and moral emotions of the nation.
Modi PM also expressed joy in stating that as a mother of democracy, the country reinforces the ideals of the constitution and pro-people policies empower the poor and women of the country. He informed that laws are made easier and accessible to ordinary citizens and that the judiciary is taking many steps to ensure timely justice. (ANI)
