This trend is so pissed off, right? I guess if you want to satisfy your inner child who likes this stuff, The mean one maybe for you; it really seems to prove that the basest forms of entertainment keep it “real” by bastardizing for children IP with no real intent outside of manufacturing Bambi, Poo, and now youhe grinch go homicidal.
This Dr Seuss parody-whose budget clearly bet everything on makeup for “the bad guy” and for the cast Burrow 2by David Howard Thornton – looks cheaper than an Asylum movie and set in a rambling town revamped as a slasher. Like, that’s it and I don’t know who’s asking that. The teaser, released by IGNgives more thrills to Christmas than murderous atmospheres.
As you can see, I’m already over this dark parody of various children’s characters made for those with a cold, cynical heart that never grew three sizes. Make no mistake, though—horror comedies with children and holidays like Anna and the apocalypse or the next violent nightFinished with serious intention and a camp with clever reimaginings, work. Just… not here, where you can say that the effort did not go further than “wouldn’t it be sick to make the Grinch murderous in a small town?”
Directed by Steven La Morte, The mean one hits US theaters December 9.
