ABU DHABI, 22nd November, 2022 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, has participated in a government session to discuss prospects for food security and the development of a sustainable market for local products.
Organized within the framework of the annual meetings of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, the session brought together Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and a group of senior federal and local officials representing ministries and agencies concerned with food production.
Mariam Almheiri affirmed that improving national food security remains a key pillar of the UAE’s vision to harness advanced technologies and launch innovative initiatives to increase local food production.
“The United Arab Emirates has launched a set of initiatives and programs to radically transform the methods aimed at increasing the competitiveness of food security and encouraging local farms to adopt sustainable and competitive production,” she said. added.
She said the government’s forward-looking strategy is to improve local farm incomes and secure 50% of government food-related purchases from local farms by 2023 by building local farm production capacity and encouraging and increasing investment in food sectors to 100% by 2030. .
Participants discussed the main challenges facing efforts to achieve food satisfaction from major commodities and to find a balance in the supply and demand equation.
