COLOMBO (News 1st) – A group of officials from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Overseas Employment Bureau have been deployed to the United Arab Emirates.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Employment Bureau said steps were being taken to repatriate 77 people residing in the United Arab Emirates and Oman on tourist visas.
The Bureau said an internal investigation had also been opened into former secretary of the Sri Lankan embassy in Oman E. Kushan, who faces charges of sexually harassing a woman in Oman.
He was remanded in custody until December 13, 2022 after being arrested by the CID on Tuesday.
An internal investigation was opened against E. Kushan by the Foreign Employment Bureau in March. However, the investigation was dropped due to lack of evidence.
